About our Speakers:

Louis Koven
Louis is a Dallas based tax partner and leads the areas Asset Management tax practice. Prior to PricewaterhouseCoopers, Louis was the Tax Director at HBK Capital Management, one of the largest hedge funds in the southwest. He was responsible for managing all aspects of HBK's fund, management company, and principal's tax issues. Prior to joining HBK, Louis was the Chief Financial Officer for Highland Capital Management LP, another leading asset manager in the southwest.
Louis has extensive experience in advising hedge fund and private equity fund clients in connection with structuring investment vehicles, analyzing acquisitions for potential tax issues, and implementing tax efficient investment and trading strategies.
Louis is a graduate of the University of Texas in Austin where he earned his BBA, High Honors, and his Masters in Professional Accounting, Deans Award. He is a member of the Texas Society of CPA's and the AICPA. Louis is very active nationally and locally with the Managed Funds Association (MFA), the primary industry association for the alternative investment community. He serves on the Board of Vogel Alcove and is a long-time volunteer for the American Cancer Society.

Donald V. Moorehead
Donald V. Moorehead is a partner in the Washington, DC office of Patton Boggs, LLP. He is Vice Chairman of the firm's Executive Committee and is Co-Chair of its Private Capital and Investment Group.
Mr. Moorehead assists clients in a broad range of tax and business planning matters and in related public policy projects. In tax and business planning, he concentrates on matters affecting private investment funds and fund managers, including U.S. taxation of non-U.S. investors and funds; swaps and other derivatives transactions; mergers and other business transactions; and U.S. taxation of income earned by U.S.-based businesses from their international operations.
Within the public policy area, Mr. Moorehead focuses on U.S. regulatory and legislative initiatives involving federal tax issues; the regulation of financial products, including derivatives; and matters affecting investment funds, financial institutions and broker-dealers. He also represents clients in connection with Congressional investigations involving tax and financial issues.
Before joining Patton Boggs in 1984, Mr. Moorehead served as Chief Counsel (Republican) to the Committee on Finance of the United States Senate and as Vice President (Tax) and General Counsel to Kaiser Aluminum & Chemical Corporation. He also was an adjunct professor of law in the graduate tax program of Georgetown University.
